Payment flow preview
This page is a nonfunctional preview for the payment developer. Payments are not available on CampusHaven: there are no working payment choices, no payment links, and no transactions, reservations, deposits or payouts are taken here. Enquiries and viewings remain requests only.
Proposed flow
- 1
Student and landlord agree first
Payment is only requested after the student and landlord have agreed through an enquiry and viewing. CampusHaven stays a discovery and communication service until that point.
- 2
Student pays through the approved provider
The student pays the semester rent (and any agreed deposit) through the payment provider's own secure checkout. CampusHaven never handles card or mobile-money details itself.
- 3
Room is marked unavailable only after confirmation
Only when the provider confirms the payment (via its webhook/callback) is the room marked unavailable to other students. An initiated or pending payment never blocks a room.
- 4
Provider holds the funds
The approved provider holds the money. It is not paid out to the landlord yet, and it never sits with CampusHaven.
- 5
Both sides confirm the student's arrival
After the student moves in, both the student and the landlord confirm the arrival.
- 6
Provider pays the landlord
Once both confirmations are in, the provider releases the funds to the landlord, less any agreed fees.
Possible payment methods
- M-Pesa (illustrative — not available for payment)
- Card (illustrative — not available for payment)
- Bank transfer (illustrative — not available for payment)
The final list depends on the provider the payment developer confirms.
Cancellations, refunds and disputes
The site owner's preference is that routine cancellation should not be allowed after payment. This rule is recorded but not implemented. Cancellation exceptions, refunds and dispute handling must be reviewed with the payment provider and a qualified adviser before any payment feature goes live.
What the payment developer must confirm
- Which payment methods the provider supports for our customers (e.g. M-Pesa, cards, bank transfer), and in which countries/currencies.
- How payment confirmation reaches us reliably (webhooks/callbacks), including retries, signatures and idempotency.
- Whether the provider can hold funds and release them on dual confirmation (escrow-style), and the exact release/refund mechanics.
- The full fee structure: who pays fees, when they are deducted, and how they appear on receipts.
- Refund, cancellation-exception and dispute handling, including timelines and who decides outcomes.
- Legal and regulatory requirements for holding student funds in Kenya, to review with a qualified adviser.
- Test/sandbox access and go-live checklist. No credentials are included in this handoff.
